Our theme this month is Transportation and Community Helpers. The children will be learning about different ways to travel. Some of their projects will include painting with toy cars, making transportation collages, and matching/sorting/counting colored cars and trucks. Community helpers and their jobs will also be discussed this month.
Parent/teacher conferences for Monique’s class will continue during the week of January 30. Conferences for Pam’s class will take place starting on February 6. Conferences for Donna’s class are scheduled for the week of February 13. Conferences for all classes will continue through the second week in April. Our annual calendar lists all of the conference dates. Please remember to sign up in the classroom for a convenient time. These conferences will also give our pre-kindergarten parents the opportunity to discuss kindergarten readiness with their child’s teacher.
Book orders are due Friday morning, February 10. Please make your check payable to Patti’s Preschool. You may also order books online. Please see Julie for more information!
The children will be exchanging valentines on Tuesday, February 14. Please find a list of names attached to the newsletter. Please send valentines for your child’s classmates (not the entire school). We will also have a Valentine’s Day party in each classroom that morning. Wish lists for party items will be posted in the classrooms. We appreciate any donations! An open invitation is extended to all our students. Parents of children who normally don’t attend school on Tuesdays will need to stay in the classroom with their child.
We are still accepting applications for our Kindergarten and Stepping-Up to Kindergarten classes for the 2012 school year. We are offering these spaces to our currently enrolled students before opening it up to the community. Spaces are limited so sign up now!
Celebrating birthdays this month are Kelly, Bridget, Lyra, Jake, Sarah D., Jordan, Kelsie, Luke, Alena, Emerson, Everett, Claire, Dante, Ella D., Axel, Riley M., Abigail, Tatum, and Jasmine P. Two of our incredible teachers, Jennifer Macedo and Lola Fielder, are also having a birthday. We hope everyone has a fabulous day!
Firefighter Curt Mahoney (Riley’s dad) will make a special appearance at the preschool on Tuesday, February 21, at 10:00 a.m. We are eagerly anticipating Firefighter Mahoney’s visit!
Officer Ken Ramsey and his police dog will be here on Friday, February 10, at 11:00 a.m. Officer Ramsey lets the children sit in his police car which is always a highlight of his visits. We are looking forward to seeing Officer Ramsey!
We are grateful to Ian Vincent and John Sutton for their generous donation of scrap paper. That will last us a long time! Sunny Altman brought in artificial snow for each classroom. The children have been having loads of fun using it for sensory activities. Dani Ranalli donated books, puzzles, and items for our science center. Thank you, Dani! We want to thank Jill Grundstrom and Lisa Long for bringing in ribbon for art activities. The hand sanitizer and wipes from Tom Ferguson have come in handy during this cold/flu season. Many thanks to Sheralyn McVeigh for donating books for our classroom library. Our staff enjoyed the delicious oranges and grapefruit that Amy Rasmussen brought to school. Thank you to all our wonderful parents!
PATTI RECOMMENDS!
My favorite “go to” parenting books are You’re Not the Boss of Me and Just Tell Me What to Say. Betsy Brown Braun, the author of both books, offers sensible tools for dealing with every day issues as well as challenging behaviors. You will find Betsy’s realistic expectations regarding discipline and manners to be very helpful. I am happy to loan out my copies so feel free to ask!
