February 2010 Newsletter

Firefighter DogOur theme this month is Transportation and Community Helpers.  The children will be learning about different ways to travel.   Some of their projects will include painting with toy cars, making transportation collages, and matching/sorting/counting colored cars and trucksCommunity helpers and their jobs will also be discussed this month.

Boy SwimmingMike Nichols (Julie’s husband) will be here on Thursday, February 18, to talk to the children about his job as a lifeguard. Water safety at the beach and by swimming pools will be a number one topic!

Parent/teacher conferences for Monique’s class will be held during the week of February 1.  Conferences for Pam’s class will take place starting on February 8.  Conferences for Donna’s class are scheduled for the week of February 15.  Conferences for all classes will continue through April.  Our annual calendar lists all of the conference dates. (Please check our website www.pattispreschool.com) Please remember to sign up in the classroom for a convenient time. These conferences will give our pre-kindergarten parents the opportunity to discuss kindergarten readiness with their child’s teacher.

Book orders are due Friday morning, February 5.  Please make your check payable to Patti’s Preschool. You may also order books online.  Please see Julie for more information!

Valentine's DayThe children will be exchanging valentines on Friday, February 12.  Please find a list of names attached to the newsletter.  Please send valentines for your child’s classmates (not the entire school).  We will also have a Valentine’s Day party in each classroom that morning.  Wish lists for party items will be posted in the classrooms.  We appreciate any donations!  An open invitation is extended to all our students.  Parents of children who normally don’t attend school on Fridays will need to stay in the classroom with their child.

Kid's Imagine MusicKids Imagine Inc. is coming to school for a special live performance on Monday, February 1, from 10:00 to 12:00.    Find out more about this musical group’s founder, Aaron Bertram, on Wikipedia.  Aaron also teaches our popular Thursday afternoon music class. In addition to teaching music and movement throughout Orange County, Kids Imagine Inc. performs regularly at Downtown Disney.

Spa DayWe are looking forward to our Staff Spa Day provided by Jean-Pierre Khreich (Allison’s dad) and his staff from Fitness Chiropractic.  J.P. will be offering special treatments for our staff during our morning break time.  This will be a great stress-reliever for our teachers!

Thank you to Pam and James Harvey for donating the bike and car for playground fun.  We are grateful to Alice and John Payne for their generous donation of puzzles.  Dana and David Rapp donated pens and markers that will be put to good use.  The books from Heather and Erik Walters are a nice addition to our school library.

Birthday GirlCelebrating birthdays this month are Isabella P., Jordan, John Lane, Arianna, Mia, Makaio, Eve, Andrew B., Isabella V., Adison H., Jennifer, and Tatum.  Our teacher, Jennifer Macedo, is also having a birthday.  We hope everyone has a great day!

Michael KatzOur favorite storyteller, Michael Katz, will be here Wednesday, February 10, from 2:15 to 3:00 p.m. to entertain our students.  Michael has performed at the Los Angeles Getty Center and The Disney Concert Hall.
