Patti's Preschool Newsletter, January 2020

Our January theme is Health, Safety, and Nutrition. We will focus on school rules, nutritious foods, and ways to stay healthy. Lesson plans will include cooking projects, safety sign pictures, and nutritious food collages. Our staff has also incorporated movement games and activities to keep our students moving each day. Besides enhancing brain development, promoting active play is a good way to keep our kids healthy. Your child may come home and tell you all about participating in Alphabet Yoga or playing Mark the Spot! We will also learn about the winter season so watch for some fun winter projects to come home!

Book orders are due Friday morning, January 10. Please make your check payable to Patti’s Preschool. We also accept credit cards and cash. If you’d like to order online, find out how from Allison or Alexa! Our school receives free books with each parent order so thank you for participating.

Celebrating birthdays this month are Ben, Grayson, Slater, Kataleiah, Haven, Valentina, Isla G, Tye, Brooklynne R., Eleanor, and Ryan. We hope our students have a fun celebration!

Three of our incredible staff members, Celeste Plummer, Allison Young and Catherine Garay are also celebrating their birthdays. Happy birthday to all our friends!

Your tuition statement for the 2019 school year will be sent home the week of January 20th. Please save this form for your income taxes.

Please remember to park in the appropriate parking stalls before dropping off or picking up your child. The red zone is for emergency vehicles only and handicap parking is for vehicles displaying handicap placards. Also, never leave your child/children unattended in your car.

We will be closed on Monday, January 20, for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

The Toy drive for CHOC Hospital was very successful! We collected many toys for the children! Ms. Faith was so excited to drop off the toys to the kids at the hospital.

We would like to thank all the parents who brought in items for special classroom projects in December. The children had so much fun celebrating the holidays with their classmates. Thank you to the Byrne family for their generous donation of puzzles, books, and toys. The Cianciarulo family brought in books about healthy eating, and the Moustakas and Hoover families brought in newspaper for our various classroom projects. Thank you to our wonderful families!

Parent/teacher conferences for Sandy’s class will be held during the week of February 10. Conferences for Tanya’s class will take place starting on February 18. Daisy will meet with her children’s parents during the week of February 24. Conferences for all classes will continue through the last week in April. Our annual calendar (which can be accessed online on our web site) lists all of the conference dates. We will send home your child’s evaluation prior to the conference date. If you have any questions regarding the information you may sign up for a conference in person or over the phone. Sign-up sheets will be posted in the classrooms. Conferences are optional, not mandatory.

PATTI RECOMMENDS

If you like to listen to podcasts (it happens to be one of my favorite pastimes!), check out the latest episodes of Psychologists Off the Clock. In a recent episode, the hosts discuss how self-compassion can help you journey through parenting more effectively, confidently, and happily. I’ve found that listening to podcasts makes my drive time to and from work more enjoyable! Also, my favorite app for sleep, meditation, and relaxation is the CALM app. My generous sister bought me a gift subscription last year and I’m hooked on the breathing and meditation exercises. Life can be busy and stressful so it’s nice to have tools that help you deal with day-to-day pressure. The New Year is a great time to add “Calm” to your life!
