Patti's Preschool Newsletter, August 2016

During the first week of August, our theme will be Nursery Rhymes, Mother Goose, Fairy Tales, and Folklore. We are looking forward to hanging out with our celebrity guest, “Elsa.” We’ll learn about other cultures around the world during the week of August 8. Our special guest that week will be storyteller/singer Georgette Baker Rae who will entertain us with stories and songs from South America and Mexico.

Under the Sea will be our theme during the week of August 15. We’ll celebrate Hawaiian Day on Wednesday, August 17, with island music and tropical treats from the Kona Shaved Ice truck. Please have your child wear something tropical to school on Hawaiian Day! Mad Science will present a science workshop on “Sea, Sand, and Surf.” Preschool is the perfect time to stress the importance of protecting our oceans!

Dinosaurs will invade our school when we explore the Prehistoric World during the week of August 22. The children will turn into paleontologists with the help of Education Through Nature on Thursday, August 24.

Goofy Week is the last week of August and we will celebrate with a bubble show and Wacky Wednesday on August 31. We will also have Backwards Day that week so make sure your child wears an item of clothing backward on September 1 (last day of summer camp). It has been a fun-filled summer at Patti’s Preschool!

Celebrating birthdays this month are Parisa, Gilda, Gavin X., Jesse, Henry, Nathanael, Reese, Skylar, Isla, Alexis, Jacob, Ava G., Mckenna, Vivian, John, Adeline, and Chase. Two of our teachers, Monique Dominguez and Nicole Cacek are also celebrating. Happy birthday, everyone! Celeste Plummer, our kitchen supervisor, is celebrating her work anniversary this month! She has been with Patti’s Preschool for 7 years. Celeste can accomplish several tasks in a short amount of time, always with a smile on her face!

We would like to thank Erica Zuniga for her generous donation of books, toys, costumes, and containers. We are grateful to Ada Perelman along with Lena Perelman and Gabriel Gordon for donating strollers, stuffed animals, and blocks. We can use these items in our outdoor learning centers. The classes are enjoying reading the books brought in by Jenny Weaver. We appreciate all the thoughtful donations!

We have many jackets and sweaters in our Lost & Found box. Please check the box in the front office if your child is missing any items.

The last day of our summer session is Thursday, September 1. We will be closed on Friday, September 2 for Teacher Prep Day in order to get ready for our fall session which begins on Tuesday, September 6. Your child may be moving to a new class that day. Class assignments will be posted in front of the school on Friday, August 26.
