Our Programs

Patti's Preschool in Huntington Beach is committed to providing individualized child care by accepting and building on each child's unique strengths and capabilities. The program is tailored to meeting the needs of each child, rather than forcing children to adjust to a rigid, confining atmosphere. We are able to achieve these goals by offering small class sizes.



Curriculum

Our preschool program includes learning experiences in the areas of language and literature, social relationships, mathematics and science, health and safety, and the creative arts (music, art and movement). There is a balance between vigorous, stimulating activities and quiet, restful activities. We have large time blocks for individual activities separated from shorter time periods for group activities, clean-up and meals. Our spacious, grassy play area encourages the children to run and play games with their friends. Our students have the opportunity to develop their large motor skills with wheel toys and climbing equipment. Simple principles of science and math, as well as an appreciation of nature, are instilled through our gardening program. 

In our Pre-K class, we offer the Zoo-phonics® Multisensory Language Arts Program which is an approach where children use their eyes, ears, mouths and bodies to learn all aspects of language arts. This is an age-appropriate program which engages children and helps them develop good learning skills. Students gain a firm foundation of the letter sounds and shapes and soon learn uppercase letters and letter names, and how to apply them to text. Zoo-phonics® uses animals drawn in the shapes of the letters for ease in memory. A related body movement and song is given for each letter. This concrete approach cements the sounds to the shapes of the letters. Lowercase letters and their sounds are taught first (needed 95% of the time in text), capital letters and letter names are taught later.

Alphabet knowledge, pre-writing skills, building vocabulary, and learning habits for writing letters and numbers are the necessary readiness skills that will help children build a strong foundation for kindergarten. We are bridging the gap between our preschool and the public schools by using the same curriculum.

Your child will learn important readiness, early writing, literacy, and math skills. These potentially complex subjects will be broken down into simpler tasks that develop on what children already know. This way, they can master skills one step at a time as they build lifelong learning habits.
