Patti's Preschool Newsletter, December 2020

Our December theme is Nursery Rhymes and Mother Goose. This is an appealing and instructive theme that prepares children for kindergarten. Participating and playing with sounds of language (rhymes/syllables) is an important pre-reading skill. Watch for “Hey Diddle, Diddle” and “Jack Be Nimble” projects. The children will also learn about winter holidays and cultural traditions during the month of December. Your child’s teacher would be interested in learning how your family celebrates at home so your traditions can be shared at school!

Scholastic book orders are due on Friday morning, December 4. You can easily order online using our class code GW3RF. Please make your check payable to Patti’s Preschool. We also accept credit cards and cash for book orders.

Celebrating birthdays this month are Leah and Lani. Three of our staff members – Susan, Patti, and Annie are also celebrating. It will be a fun birthday month!

Ms. Catherine is celebrating her 4-year anniversary of teaching at Patti’s Preschool! Ms. Megan will celebrate her 1-year anniversary on January 2. We are grateful for their hard work and dedication!

We appreciate the thoughtful, generous parents who brought desserts and paper products for our Thanksgiving feast. The children enjoyed their special treats!

The Elks Preschool Vision Screening Program will be here at school on December 1 and 2 to perform free vision screenings. An email was sent out with details of the screening, as well as general information. If you do NOT want your child to participate, please alert the front office. You will be contacted if a follow-up appointment with a pediatric ophthalmologist is recommended.

Please alert the front office if your child will be absent for an extended period of time during the month of December. Thank you!

We will have pajama days on December 23 and 24. Children may wear their pajamas to school on those days.

We’re looking forward to holiday caroling on Tuesday, December 15, performed by our Stepping Up class. This will definitely put us in the holiday spirit!

PATTI RECOMMENDS

I just picked up Dr. Kelly Fradin’s new book, PARENTING IN A PANDEMIC: How to Help Your Family Through COVID-19. Dr. Fradin, a pediatrician, offers sound data-driven advice including how to manage anxiety in your children and yourself. Her thoughtful common sense information will have you referring to her book frequently. You may also want to follow her on Instagram @adviceIgivemyfriends. I am certain you will find the answers you’re looking for in this book!

We are grateful to Stacy Forstall and James Brown for generously donating their play kitchen for more playground fun. Many thanks to Rachel and Adan Greer for bringing the gingerbread cookie decorating kit. We know our students will love making it!

Please remember that we will be closing at 3:00pm on Thursday, December 24, in order for staff to spend extra time with family. School will be closed from December 25 through January 1. (Tuition is not charged for the week of December 28.) Our winter session will start on Monday, January 4, 2021. Happy holidays from all of us at Patti’s Preschool!
