Patti's Preschool Newsletter, February 2023

Our theme this month is Transportation and Community Helpers. The children will be learning about different ways to travel. Some of their projects will include painting with toy cars, making transportation collages, and matching/sorting/counting colored cars and trucks. We will also focus on community helpers and their jobs through books and art activities. We are looking forward to celebrating the contributions and achievements of African Americans during Black History Month. February will be a busy month!

Scholastic Book orders are due Friday, February 10th. Go to www.scholastic.com to place your order. Our class code is GW3RF. Please see the front office for more information!

Our Stepping Up class along with Room 6 will be celebrating the 100th day of school on Monday, February 6. The teachers have planned many fun activities such as decorating hats with 100 dots, making towers with 100 cups, doing 100 exercises, and staying quiet for 100 seconds!

Parent/teacher phone conferences for Ms. Jennifer’s class will be held during the week of February 6. A sign-up sheet is on top of the cubbies. Conferences for Ms. Pam, Ms. Susan, and Ms. Catherine will follow. Conferences for all classes will continue through the first week of April. Our annual calendar (on our website) lists all of the conference dates. A written evaluation will be sent home prior to your conference. Conferences are not mandatory.

The children will be exchanging valentines on Tuesday, February 14. Please send valentines for your child’s classmates (not the entire school). We will have a special snack that day. More information along with wish lists for party items will be posted on ClassDojo. We appreciate any donations!

Celebrating birthdays this month are Johnny, Gianna, Brodie, Brooke, Kyla, Kerry, Kruz, Edyn, Alexander, Mia, Aris, and Leila. Our amazing front office assistant, Ms. Sandy, is also celebrating this month! Happy birthday to all!

We appreciated the donation of chalk from Catherine and Sam Fullerton. Our students love creating chalk drawings on the playground cement. Wendy and Terence Lee brought in new books for the Stepping Up book corner. We have some avid book lovers in Room 3 so we are grateful for the donation. The children in Room 5 love the guitar from Sherry and Tim D’Zmura. Thank you, parents, for thinking of us!

We’re pleased to announce the addition of a new staff member! Emma Leach has started training as a break person with Ms. Leicy. She is also observing in each classroom so your child has already met her. We’re delighted to have Emma join our team!

Kindergarten registration for the Huntington Beach City School District will be on Thursday, February 16, at 6:00pm at your home school. To find your home school, go to the HBCSD web site for more info.

School is closed Monday, February 20th, in honor of Presidents’ Day. We hope everyone has a fun and safe 3-day weekend.
